We are delighted to introduce our new Club Development Officer – Kirstin Oakley! Kirstin will be a familiar face to past and current members of the Club as she spent many years training as a middle distance athlete and has since then been helping as a Coaching Assistant.
Kirstin’s journey into athletics began when she aced the bleep test at school, setting a new school record, leading her PE teacher to recommend that she give athletics a try. Kirstin joined Ayr Seaforth and quickly established herself as top talent as a middle distance runner nationally from U13 all the way through to U20. Career highlights as a junior athlete include taking 1st place in the Scottish National XC Championships, Scottish National XC Relays and Scottish Schools Championships (1500m and XC). Kirstin’s success lead her to an athletics scholarship in the USA where she continued to compete for her university in Illinois as well as for Ayr Seaforth when she would return home. We believe that Kirstin’s history with the Club, her success as an athlete and experience in coaching make her ideally suited to this role.
The focus of Kirstin’s role will be to support the Club with both volunteer and athlete recruitment, with a particular emphasis on the Ayr North community. She will do this by helping us build strong links with local organisations within Ayr North and through the delivery of athletic sessions for students of Ayr Academy and its associated cluster primary schools.
Kirstin is looking forward to getting started and is excited about the Club’s future prospects as we look forward to our move to a new training facility at Craigie later this year.
We wish Kirstin all the best in the role and hope to see everyone welcome her onboard.
